Please contact the Hyatt Regency Bethesda no later than Monday, September 25, 2006, to make your hotel accommodations. To receive the conference rate of $195 plus tax per night, please call the Hyatt Regency Bethesda at 1-800-233-1234 or 301-657-1234 and indicate that you are requesting a room for the “Lipodystrophy and the Metabolic Consequences of Altered Fat Deposition Workshop.” All reservations must be secured with a major credit card. Please be certain that the hotel provides you with a confirmation number for your reservation. After September 25, 2006, the official room block will be released and the hotel may charge significantly higher rates or may be sold out. When making a reservation, please provide room and bedding preferences. The hotel will assign specific room types on check-in, based on availability. Please be advised that requests are not guaranteed.

NOTE: Hotel room charges and applicable room taxes will be charged to the NIDDK master account for sponsored participants only (i.e., participants for whom NIDDK has agreed to provide travel support). All other charges incurred by sponsored participants, including but not limited to, incidental charges, such as telephone calls, faxes, room services and so forth, will not be reimbursed and will remain the sole responsibility of the participant upon checkout of the hotel.

TRAVEL SUPPORT

Travel awards are available for presenting postdoctoral researchers/fellows and students in the amount of $750. These will be chosen from the submitted abstracts on the basis of quality and significance. If you would like to apply for a travel award, please include a short cover letter containing a brief biographical sketch along with your abstract, and indicate whether you would prefer to present your work as a talk, poster, or either. The abstract submission deadline is Tuesday, October 3, 2006.


WHEN VISITING THE NATIONAL LIBRARY OF MEDICINE

From Metro to NIH Gateway Center

  • The Medical Center red line Metro stop is located right outside of the NIH campus (where the Library is located).
  • Upon exiting the Metro stop, follow the signs pointing to the NIH entrance, pass through the turnstile, and enter into the NIH Gateway Center on your left to undergo a security check before heading to the Library.

NIH Gateway Center Security Procedure
  • Everyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Everyone 16 and older must bring and present one form of government-issued picture ID at the NIH Gateway Center. [Two IDs are required for orange alert days.]
  • Similar to airport security, everyone in the group will walk through a magnetometer; have personal belongings inspected; and be given an NIH visitor pass.
We advise you to travel light to the Library to expedite the security process.

  • Via a walking path: exiting the NIH Gateway Center, you may follow the walking path that begins to the right of the Center and is lined with signs pointing to the National Library of Medicine (38) and Natcher (45). You will walk through a parking lot, grassy area, and between 2 buildings. When you walk pass a day care center on your left, follow the pedestrian walk way toward the front of Natcher (45). You will see a high-rise building across the street from Natcher building. Cross Center Drive and walk toward the high rise which is the Lister Hill Center (Building 38A), where your meeting will be held.
  • Via “Limited” campus shuttle: you may catch this bus from the bus shelters across the circular drive in front of the Gateway Center. Get off at the second stop in front of the Lister Hill Center (Building 38A). Your meeting will take place in the Lister Hill Auditorium, on the first floor of that building.
From this area, catch a “Limited” NIH shuttle bus or walk to the Lister Hill Center, 38A.

GROUND TRANSPORTATION

From the North and East
From I-95: Take I-95 South to I-495 (Capital Beltway) West toward Silver Spring. Take Exit 34 (Wisconsin Avenue/Route 355). Stay to the right when getting off the exit, and make two left turns (or do a u-turn) to get onto Route 355 South. Follow Route 355 South for approximately 3 miles. The Hyatt Regency Bethesda will be on the right, on the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Old Georgetown Road.

From the North and West
From I-270: Take I-270 South to I-495 (Capital Beltway) East toward Washington, DC. Stay in one of the three left lanes. Follow signs for Route 355 South, a left-lane exit, onto Wisconsin Avenue. Follow Route 355 South for approximately 3 miles. The Hyatt Regency Bethesda will be on the right, on the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Old Georgetown Road.

From the South
Take I-95 North to I-495 (Capital Beltway) toward Tysons Corner/Rockville. Follow I-495 for 20 miles. At the I-495/I-270 split, stay to the right on I-495. Take Exit 34 (Wisconsin Avenue/Route 355). Stay to the right when getting off the exit and make two left turns (or do a u-turn) to get onto Route 355 South. Follow Route 355 South for approximately 3 miles. From Ronald Reagan National Airport
Take the George Washington Parkway North to I-495 (Capital Beltway) and follow the signs to Maryland. At the I-495/I-270 split, stay to the right on I-495. Take Exit 34 (Wisconsin Avenue/Route 355). Stay to the right when getting off the exit and make two left turns (or do a u-turn) to get onto Route 355 South. Follow Route 355 South for approximately 3 miles. From Washington Dulles International Airport
Take the Dulles Access Road for approximately 13 miles to Exit 18. Move to the right on the Dulles Toll Road (Route 267); get off at Exit 18. Stay to the left on the ramp for Bethesda/Baltimore and proceed toward Bethesda on I-495 (Capital Beltway) for approximately 9 miles. At the I-495/I-270 split, stay to the right on I-495. Take Exit 34 (Wisconsin Avenue/Route 355 South). Follow Route 355 South for approximately 3 miles. The Hyatt Regency Bethesda will be on the right, on the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Old Georgetown Road.

From Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) Take Route 195 West to Exit 4 (I-95 South). From I-95 take I-495 (Capital Beltway) West toward Silver Spring. Take Exit 34 (Wisconsin Avenue/Route 355). Stay to the right when getting off the exit and make two left turns (or do a u-turn) to get onto Route 355 South. Taxi
The one-way fare to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is $30, and the trip takes 30 minutes in non-rush hour traffic.

The one-way fare to Dulles International Airport is $60, and the trip takes 45 minutes in non-rush hour traffic.

The one-way fare to Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport is $65, and the trip takes 1.5 hours in non-rush hour traffic.

By Train From BWI
Take the MARC train on the PennLine to Union Station. Take the Metro Red Line toward Grosvenor or Shady Grove and exit at the Bethesda Metro Station. The hotel is directly above the Bethesda Metro Station.

Parking:
Self-parking at the hotel is $12.00 per day/overnight ($9.00 on Friday and Saturday). Valet parking is $14.00 per day/overnight ($11.00 on Friday and Saturday).
