I have varied research projects covering a spectrum of gastroenterology and hepatology. These projects include: utilization of SmartPill© in the management of patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease; evaluation of the natural history of gastrointestinal and hepatic manifestations of patients with autoimmune polyendocrinopathy ectodermal dystrophy and candidiasis (APECED); and the use of noninvasive means to assess portal hypertension.

Research Projects: I am currently involved in two major research projects. The first involves evaluating the presentation, natural history, and diagnosis of familial midgut carcinoid tumor -- an entity that is distinct from sporadic carcinoid tumors. The second encompasses elucidating the association of Helicobacter pylori infection with metabolic syndrome and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. My other areas of interest are colonoscopy screening and endoscopic safety.

Research Projects: I am currently involved in both gastroenterology and hepatology research. These include using sickle cell liver disease as a model in understanding factors that predict progression and regression of liver disease, study of the role of miRNA in the interferon pathway and hepatitis C, utilization of SmartPill© in the management of gastroesophageal reflux disease, use of monoclonal antibody in the treatment of hypereosinophilic syndrome/eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorder and the role of gastrointestinal immune cells in idiopathic CD4 lymphopenia.

Research Projects: I am currently involved in two clinical trials; one evaluating the utility of a novel gastrin antagonist in patients with gastric carcinoid tumors and the other evaluating a the effect of a proton pump inhibitor in Barrett's esophagus. My other research projects include the medical management of gastrointestinal manifestations in chronic granulomatous disease and the association between elevated tryptase levels and irritable bowel syndrome.
