Approximately 20% of patients with AKI, usually of the greatest severity, develop CKD over a 3-5-year followup. How patients should be treated in the post-AKI outpatient setting is unknown. A workshop in January 2019 identified possible interventions and parameters for evaluation. A consortium comprised of a Data Coordinating Center and 3 Clinical Centers will develop an approach to enrolling patients with AKI, and develop specific interventions with appropriate control groups, to evaluate their efficacy in improving AKI outcomes after hospitalization.
