Executive Summary
This concept clearance seeks to provide continued support for the collection and assays of serum and urinary samples from the NHANES. Other divisions of NIDDK have both used NHANES extensively for their burden of disease reports. KUH supports the assays of blood urea nitrogen (BUN)/serum creatinine (CR) and urinary albumin to creatinine ratio (ACR). In addition, questions about knowledge of kidney disease and history of kidney stones are collected. This information is critical for NIDDK’s two key programs, the United States Renal Data System (USRDS) and Urologic Diseases in America (UDA). NHANES provides the most widely used estimates of prevalence of kidney disease based on laboratory measurements in a population-based sample in the US.
