NIDDK is committed to continued support of collaborative research, which drives innovation and discovery, and aims to transition from the current approach that supports collaborative research using the Program Project Grant (P01) mechanism to other award types that have proven effective in supporting collaborative research, such as the investigator-initiated multi-PI Research Projects and the High-Impact, Interdisciplinary Science Awards.
This concept proposes a structured phase-out of the NIDDK Program Project Grant (P01), in a manner that allows for a transition from the current P01 program to newer, more suitable mechanisms. The NIDDK seeks to ensure current P01 projects can successfully conclude while standing up new opportunities to support collaborative research. This will allow the NIDDK to shift resources to other award types that have proven effective in supporting collaborative research.
