Executive Summary

Urologic Diseases in America is the premier registry for non-malignant urologic diseases in the U.S. As with End-Stage Renal Disease or cancer, having a comprehensive data repository of information with disease prevalence and common interventions for urologic diseases is a pre-requisite for conducting large-scale epidemiology research. This would consist of both comprehensive reference tables and data sets that investigators can access and use for independent projects, as presently exists for the United States Renal Data System (USRDS), Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER), the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), and others. Over the past 10 years, NIDDK has supported the Urologic Diseases in America (UDA) project to address these needs. This parallels efforts for many other diseases, most notably the United States Renal Data System (USRDS), Diabetes in America (DIA), Burden of Digestive Diseases in the US (from NIDDK) and overall, Health, United States.
