Dr. Rodgers discusses National Kidney Month with TV reporter Andrea Roane.

Every March, National Kidney Month gives NIDDK an opportunity to share information and resources on kidney health with patient, advocacy and professional audiences. This year’s campaign emphasized the importance of maintaining kidney health in children and families. It specifically targeted the African American population, which is four times more likely to develop kidney failure than other racial groups.

Highlights included a statement from NIDDK Director Dr. Griffin P. Rodgers around the World Kidney Day theme, “Kidney Disease and Children: Act Early to Prevent it!" As well, Rodgers extended the reach of prevention messages to millions of people through interviews with reporters, including a broadcast with WUSA-TV’s Andrea Roane. Outreach and promotions during National Kidney Month also drew attention to Kidney Sundays educational events implemented through a long-standing partnership with the Chi Eta Phi Inc. nursing sorority to increase awareness of kidney disease among African Americans.
