Responsibilities & Activities
I direct programs for health disparities with broad reach across the NIDDK scientific mission areas. The health disparities program includes both basic and clinical studies in NIDDK mission relevant areas as well as collaborations with global health when strategically appropriate. I also coordinate some diversity training activities with the National Hispanic Medical Association (NHMA) and the National Medical Association (NMA). I lead the Small Grants for New Investigators to Promote Diversity in Health-Related Research (R21), Promoting Organ and Tissue Donation Among Diverse Populations (R01), and Addressing Health Disparities in NIDDK Diseases (R01).
