    Research Summary

    Research Goal

    Optical techniques provide simple non-destructive methods for the determination of the secondary and tertiary structure of biological molecules in solution.

    Current Research

    I conduct spectrophotometric studies on the structure and interactions of biological macromolecules.  I use absorbance, fluorescence, and circular dichroism measurements.

    Applying our Research

    Only the native state of macromolecule shows biological activity. These methods are used to study how the molecule folds into that state and how the structure changes during physiological conditions.

    Need for Further Study

    Experimental techniques are well established, but mathematical analysis of data needs more refinement.
