Research in Plain Language

Our lab studies sphingolipids, lipid molecules that form cell membranes and transmit signals to cells. Sphingolipids control many basic functions in cells. They also provide signals to the body when injury or disease occurs. When their levels are disrupted serious, sometimes fatal diseases result. Our work is aimed at understanding how sphingolipids function normally and during disease.
