    Research in Plain Language

Our lab studies sphingolipids, lipid molecules that form part of the outer layer of cell membranes and transmit signals to cells. Sphingolipids control many basic functions. For instance, sphingolipids tell lymphocytes how to move through the body as they search for pathogens. They also provide signals to the body when injury or disease occurs. Our work is aimed at understanding how the lipids function normally and during disease.
