Research Summary/In Plain Language

Research in Plain Language

We examine the earliest indicators for the development of diabetes to determine if they differ by race, ethnicity, or age. These studies will help us to understand why diabetes risk is high in some racial groups. Our current research focuses on diabetes and heart disease risk in individuals of African descent and from white populations. These studies will help us to determine the best tests to diagnose and monitor the treatment of diabetes regardless of race or ethnicity.
