National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Overview
The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) assesses and reports on the quality of managed care plans, which allows purchasers and consumers to compare plans based on quality and make more informed health care purchasing decisions. NCQA efforts are organized around accreditation and performance measurement in areas such as member satisfaction, quality of care, access, and service.
The NCQA Patient Centered Medical Home Recognition Program provides health care practices information about organizing care around patients, working in teams, and coordinating and tracking care over time.
NCQA, in partnership with the American Diabetes Association, developed the Diabetes Recognition Program to provide clinicians with tools to support the delivery and recognition of consistent high-quality care. To qualify, health care providers submit performance data on several dimensions of diabetes care, including eye exams, blood pressure tests, glucose levels, foot care, and smoking cessation. Health care providers earn points toward recognition when the patient population meets standards of care established by the NCQA committee.
