How long does it take for a habit to form? You may think habits are formed right away.
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at NIH.
Results from research studies show it takes, on average, 66 days for a new habit to form. So you may ask, what does this mean to me?
Imagine that after eating dinner, you take a 10-minute walk. Each time you eat dinner and take a walk, your mind links the two. At a certain point, you walk every night after dinner without giving it much thought.
Whether you’re making a pledge to walk more or eat healthy, it’s important to get started, be consistent, and don’t let one lost day stop you.
