Diabetes Management Using FDA-Approved or Cleared Products
Learn what the FDA has approved to help people with diabetes monitor and manage their glucose levels.
DR. RODGERS: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, approves and clears many medical products to help people manage their diabetes.
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, a director at NIH.
My colleague, Jovonni Spinner, with the FDA explains:
MS. SPINNER: If diabetes is not managed properly, over time it could lead to heart disease, stroke, kidney damage, and other complications. Thanks to better treatments, you can manage your diabetes and live longer by making lifestyle changes to take care of yourself each day.
To help people with diabetes monitor and manage their glucose levels, the FDA has approved
- drugs for improved blood sugar control in adults with Type 2 diabetes
- long-acting and short-acting insulins for patients with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes
- insulin pumps
- continuous glucose monitoring devices
- and many other medical products
Talk to your health care provider to learn more about what’s right for you.
