DR. RODGERS: If you or a loved one has struggled with heart health, you know it can be difficult to go the road alone. Having the support of your family and community can help.
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at NIH.
My colleague Dr. Gary Gibbons, director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, explains.
DR. GIBBONS: Did you know optimal heart health can be passed on to the next generation? One recent study found that women with stronger indicators of heart health, like having normal blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol, during pregnancy were more likely to have children with signs of optimal heart health in their teen years.
Researchers are studying how we can bring resources, like blood pressure screenings, to communities to help everyone achieve optimal heart health, and take steps together to protect our hearts.
DR. RODGERS: Follow us @NIDDKgov. This is Dr. Griffin Rodgers with the NIH.
