DR. RODGERS: Did you know that nurses were some of the first health care professionals to recognize the connection between your health, environment, and community?

Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at NIH.

My colleague, Dr. Shannon Zenk, the director of the National Institute of Nursing Research, or NINR, explains.

DR. ZENK: Good health depends on what you eat and drink, reducing stress, living in safe housing and neighborhoods, having clean air and water, and more.

Nurses have a rich history of working across different areas to find health solutions for all.

In our hospitals, schools, workplaces, homes, and beyond, nurses are in the community tackling complex health challenges.

This drives our research at NINR.

DR. RODGERS: To learn about the research intersection between nursing and NIDDK follow us @NIDDKgov. This is Dr. Griffin Rodgers.
