Meeting Description:

The laboratory mouse is an important tool for determining the genetic basis of mouse urinary function and dysfunction.  A powerful approach is to create a database of mouse urinary phenotypes across multiple genetic strains and experimental models and use these data to identify gene-to-phenotype associations.  The spontaneous void spot assay and cystometry have been used extensively for phenotyping rodent urinary function, but lack standardized protocols for assay design, data analysis, and data reporting.  Current efforts are underway to address this problem and to develop a consensus of best practices.

The goal of this meeting is to define for spontaneous void spot and cystometrograms, the raw data, metadata, and analytical endpoints that are needed to support the generation of a mouse urinary phenotyping database.  We have solicited PI’s from the GUDMAP (GenitoUrinary Development Molecular Anatomy Project) and NIF (Neuroscience Information Framework) to help delineate how to best capture the information to allow for data analysis.  GUDMAP also will present strategies on cross-linking to GUDMAP resources and to other phenotype data such as the IMPC (International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium) database.
