Meeting Focus

Scientific observations support the hypothesis that macrophages regulate critical stages of the development, terminal differentiation, and death (or recycling) of erythrocytes. However the molecular interactions that occur between erythroid progenitors or erythrocytes and macrophages—and the biochemical pathways that govern those interactions—are incompletely understood. This workshop aims to review the most recent progress in the field and to promote discussion of the gaps in our knowledge of these biological processes and pathways. We also hope to gain a specific understanding of the current scientific and technologic barriers to the hematology research community in the pursuit of knowledge in this area.
