Yanling Ma, Ph.D., Post-Doctoral Fellow

Dr. Ma received her Ph.D. in cardiovascular pharmacology in 2012 from the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica in Shanghai, China. She then worked as a biologist-scientist in the China Research and Development Center of Eli Lilly, focusing on development of novel anti-diabetic medications and their mechanism of action. She joined the Liver and Energy Metabolism Unit in August 2014 and her project is centered on understanding the mechanism of action of novel genes that are associated with NAFLD.

Maren Podszun, Ph.D., Post-Doctoral Fellow

Dr. Podszun received her Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences in 2015 from the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany, where she worked on the impact of vitamin E on xenobiotic metabolism and hepatic lipid accumulation in animal models. She joined the Liver and Energy Metabolism Unit in January 2016 and is working on understanding the mechanism of action of vitamin E as a therapeutic agent in human fatty liver disease. When she is not in the lab, she enjoys reading and taking dance lessons, and is a passionate beekeeper who loves to observe seasonal changes both in the hive and nature.

Katherine Valles, B.Sc., Post-Baccalaureate IRTA

Ms. Valles received her Bachelor's degree in Biology and Theology/Religious Studies (cum laude) from Fordham University in 2014, and has joined the Liver and Energy Metabolism Unit in August 2014. Her projects are generation of animal models to study novel genes that are associated with NAFLD and studies of biomarkers of response to treatment in human NAFLD patients.
