Executive Summary

The purpose is to issue an RFA for the competing continuation of the Data Coordination Center of the Physiology of the Weight Reduced State (POWERS) clinical trial consortium, in order to complete the clinical trial and conduct limited discovery research using biospecimens. POWERS is focused on elucidating the metabolic, behavioral, and molecular mechanisms underlying individual variability in maintenance of reduced weight following weight loss. The POWERS study was originally awarded in 2021 with the requirement to collect biospecimens (blood, urine, feces, muscle and adipose tissue), but the funding for analysis of these specimens was not included.
