- A cleansing liquid used in the two main forms of dialysis, hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Dialysis solution contains a sugar called dextrose and other chemicals similar to those found in your body. Dextrose draws wastes and extra fluid from your body into the dialysis solution. Health care providers sometimes call dialysis solution "dialysate."
