Jan. 2011
Special Statutory Funding Program for Type 1 Diabetes Research: Evaluation Report 2011 cover

Special Statutory Funding Program for Type 1 Diabetes Research: Evaluation Report describes the unique, collaborative, and innovative research consortia, networks, and resources that have been enabled by the Special Statutory Funding Program for Type 1 Diabetes Research. The Program was established by the Congress for research into the prevention and cure of type 1 diabetes. The Report describes the collaborative planning process guiding use of the funds, the research progress achieved to date, the expected future accomplishments of the research programs, and emerging research opportunities. As described in this publication, the Program has fostered many significant scientific accomplishments, including the creation of several large-scale, high-impact research efforts which have provided new insights into the understanding of type 1 diabetes and its complications, and contributed to improving the health and quality of life of people with type 1 diabetes. In addition, the Report contains “Investigator Profiles” to highlight type 1 diabetes researchers whose studies have been supported by the Program, and profiles of people who are participating in clinical research supported by the Program. A version of this Report was submitted to the Congress in December 2010.
